View of the Art Tower and Skyline of Mito
Mito might not be the first place that comes to mind when you think of Japan, but you’ll soon find out that once you’ve seen this city’s skyline, it’s not going to be easy to forget. Whatever time of the day you view this cam, be it night or day, you may well find yourself totally agog and bordering on desperate to find out just what you’re actually looking at.
Mito, like most Japanese cities, is dotted with the trees that blossom with the country’s national flower, cherry blossom, every springtime. It’s not the Sakura that’s attention grabbing here though and definitely not what sets it apart from other Japanese cities. This city, located in the Ibaraki Prefecture of Honshu Island, has a year-round attraction that, quite frankly, outdoes even the beauty of Nature at its best. It’s so eye-catching, you may find yourself staring at it for quite some time wondering not just exactly what it is, but how on earth did someone build that.
The curiosity that has, justifiably, captured your undivided attention is the Mito Art Tower. This unusual, to say the least, structure is in fact an event hall for concerts and the twisted, geometrical tower an adornment that reaches one-hundred metres into the sky. Does the rising stack of twisted pyramid shapes, otherwise known as tetrahedra, and the helices or coils that connect them, make the concerts sound any better? Well, that’s anyone’s guess. But, it has to be said, they look pretty impressive. And fair play to Mito for having a skyline that is definitely just that little bit different to the rest.
