University of Washington Webcams in Seattle

When you want to get a view of a city in almost all of its entirety then the best place to stick a webcam is on the highest building you can find. While the UW Tower, where the first of these Seattle live feeds is being streamed from, may not be the tallest in the city, at twenty-two storeys high which equates to just under a hundred metres, it’s the highest by far in the Downtown area. There is literally nothing in the way to spoil the view unless a flock of pigeons happen to fly by.

The second cam in this collection may have you momentarily confused. This Red Square is not in the Russian capital, but on the campus of the University of Washington in Seattle. The name is where the similarities between the two end. UW’s Red Square is more modern than its Moscovian counterpart and only became known as the red square after it was paved with bricks in the late 1960s for a reason no more exciting than to prevent rain leakage into the underground parking lot below it.

The prime time to see the cherry blossom at the University of Washington is, unsurprisingly, spring. Join the cam at any other time throughout the year and you’ll have missed the spectacle of the Yoshina cherry trees in full bloom. All you’ll see is a shady canopy of green. If you want to practise a bit of American hanami via the internet then pop back around the third week of March and you may well be in luck.

You don't have any favourites yet.
