The Rockefeller Center could almost be likened to a city within a city. Located in Midtown Manhattan, this conglomeration of buildings has at its heart what most cities have somewhere in their centre, the proverbial square where it all happens. From Christmas through to New Year and throughout the seasons, there’s pretty much always something going on. If there’s not then it’s the perfect space to sit and contemplate the surroundings. And there’s a lot to take in.

The group of nineteen towering skyscrapers include the fourteen historic Art Deco buildings constructed by the infamously wealthy family the centre is named for -The Rockefellers. While the Rockefellers are renowned for keeping a tight grip on their purse strings, but as you can tell from the views on this live feed, they’ve never held back when it comes to investing in architecture. That’s a trait which has had a lasting impression on the streets of New York and several other places besides.

Construction of the first buildings began way back in the early 1930s and while they were destined for commercial purposes, they soon became a major tourist attraction and are to this day. To say visitors flock there is an understatement. Think numbers of over a hundred million annually and you’d still be a few hundred thousand short. Yes, the Rockefeller Center may have its square, call it a plaza if you wish, but the one thing it’s lacking on occasion is a little bit of elbow room.
