Split Port Webcam

Split seems a strange name for a city. In the English language, the word split means divided or broken into parts. As you can see on this live feed, there is nothing broken about the second largest urbanisation in Croatia. It is completely intact and pretty picturesque as well, but split it did in the early 1990s when it finally gained independence from Yugoslavia. That’s not where its name originates from though. And as no-one is a hundred percent certain of the origins of the name, that’s a subject best left to the historians to debate.

Looking at the peaceful scene on this webcam, it’s hard to believe Split is visited by almost a million tourists every year. What do they go there for? To lounge on the city’s suburb beaches after traipsing around the Old Town sightseeing, to take an evening stroll along the promenade or, like the wealthy, to moor up their luxurious yacht in a scenic setting at a cost that doesn’t make too much of a dent in their bank balances.

Split is a must-see for any diehard fan of Game of Thrones. Some of the most memorable scenes in the TV series were filmed on location in the city. Diocletian’s Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is one that will give you flashbacks of Daenerys and her fire-breathing dragons. Treat yourself to a shot of rakia, a fruit brandy and the national drink, after a long day of GoT location bingeing and while you won’t be spitting flames, your throat will definitely be on fire.
