Skyline and Beehives atop the Wanamaker Office Building in Philadelphia
Urban beekeeping on office tower block roofs is becoming quite a big trend in the US and around Europe too. There’s no questioning the fact that the roof area of the Wanamaker Office Building on Penn Square in Philadelphia is buzzing with life. At the last count, there were around fifty-eight thousand individual buzzy bees making up the overall population in these sky-high hives.
Bees are known to be hard workers and in all fairness they have to be when they need to fly halfway around the city to find the nearest pollen. Maybe it’s time the Wanamaker Building roof space underwent another ecological makeover and was turned into a flower garden. It would look a lot more attractive, be a great lunchtime picnic area and make honey production a whole lot sweeter and less time conzzzooming for the bees.
