Sagg Main Beach in Sagaponack
It’s hard to imagine that this tranquil beach exists just two and a half hours drive from the mayhem of Downtown Manhattan, but it does. Sagg Beach fronts the village of Sagaponack on Long Island, the favourite escape of the New York wealthy. Leave the cam sound on and you can contemplate just how much it would cost to live there while listening to the waves and the cry of the gulls.
Before it was taken over by settlers in the mid-17th century, Shinnecock Native Americans called this area of Long Island the land of the big ground nuts or in their language, sagaponack. The name referred to a particular type of bean that grew wild there back in the day, the apios americana or groundnut. While those Natives weren’t renowned for having the ability to foresee the future, it’s a name to ponder on as there have been plenty of folks who have been nuts for a piece of the ground there.
If this live feed has you dreaming of uprooting and relocating to Sagaponack, dream on. Sagaponack is one of the most expensive places in the United States to live so unless you have a bank account with something close to a ten figure balance it will remain a pipe dream. But still, you can always pretend the view on this cam is the view from your beachfront mansion and the best thing about that is it won’t cost you a billion bucks as it’s free.
