Port of Singapore (Tanjong Pagar) Shipping Webcam

If you were expecting to see a lot more maritime movement on this live feed of the Port of Singapore, that’s understandable. The Port of Singapore is after all the second busiest port in the world. The reason why this area may appear more tranquil than expected is because Tanjong Pagar is just one of the seven shipping terminals that the port encapsulates in its entirety.

Tanjong Pagar was once a fishing village on the side of the Singapore River. Its development as a trading port was initiated by a British colonist in the late 19th century, and it hasn’t stopped expanding since then. There are still more plans for expansion of the port areas over the next couple of decades so it may well be the world’s number one port sometime in the future.

Tanjong Pagar appears to be a popular name in Singapore. It’s now the name adopted by the district of Singapore where this shipping terminal is, the name of a local football team and was until recently, the name of the tallest building in the city until it was renamed Guoco Tower. What you can’t see on this live feed is the historic centre of Tanjong Pagar which, it has to be said, has a lot more eye-appeal than the port.
