Pflugerville? It’s not often the letter f follows the letter p in a word of the English language no matter which version, British, American, Canadian or Australian, you’re accustomed to. Those that do are pretty obscure and mostly not ones you’d be inclined to use on a daily basis. However, it is a letter combination that’s a lot more common in the German language and that’s where the strange name of Pflugerville originates from.

This live feed streamed by Rick is focused on the skies above Pflugerville, a city in central Texas named after Henry Pfluger, a migrant of German descent who was the first to settle there in the mid-19th century. After a few minutes of viewing you may come to the conclusion that not a great deal happens in the skies above Pflugerville and you’d be right. Watch long enough and you may spot a fly-size plane traversing the heavens on its approach to the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport. Then again you may see nothing more than clouds or if it’s a clear night, the twinkling of stars. If you were hoping for a UFO spotting cam – forget it.

While not a lot happens in the skies year-round above Pflugerville, that’s not the case in the city’s Pfluger Park every October. When autumn is in full swing, for one weekend at least, the Pflugervillians don their lederhosen and dirndls in honor of the city’s German roots and head to the annual Deutschen Pfest. It may not be a Volksfest on the scale of the Oktoberfest in Munich, but there’s a beer garden, pretzel eating competitions and carnival rides. It looks to be a pfantastic pfamily day so pfair play to the Pflugervillians for celebrating their heritage.
