Panoramic View of Somao

If you’ve been searching for a scenic image to paint then you’ve hit the jackpot with this view of Somao. But, just so you don’t get too over excited by your find, be aware that it may well test your artistic skills for creating still life. Yes, you guessed it, there’s not a lot going on here unless a bird happens to fly across the sky or some clouds creep in to add an extra atmospheric touch.

Somao is one of those delightful places in northern Spain you’d only come across if you were on a campervan motoring tour and took a wrong turn. Would it be worth stopping there? Probably, at least for half an hour anyway which is about how long it would take to explore the streets and snap a few photographs of the well-maintained colonial architecture.

The one thing Somao has going for it, other than massive Cuban-style mansions with ornate gardens, is its location. Sitting at an altitude of just over two-hundred metres above sea level and only three kilometres from the coast, the views of the North Atlantic from the village are sensational. You don’t even need to be there to enjoy that sight as part of the big blue yonder you can see on this live feed is the ocean. If you’ve been inspired to put a canvas on your easel and are about to get to work, just think. Not only will you be creating a still life and a landscape, but a seascape as well. That’s definitely what can only be called a triple whammy.
