Mount Jefferson Webcam in West Jefferson

If you’re someone who dislikes change, you’ll appreciate this live feed being streamed from West Jefferson in North Carolina by the owners of Triple Tree Lodge. It doesn’t vary much. In fact the view only changes with the seasons, when it’s raining or when the clouds drift in. The weather report feature in the top right hand corner gives a fair indication of when either of the latter two are likely to occur. If you don’t want to experience a variation in the scenery just click on pause and you won’t have to witness it.

Mount Jefferson, not to be confused with a stratovolcano of the same name in the state of Oregon, is the prominent feature of the Mount Jefferson State Natural Area. The sweeping slopes of this mound, formed from an unusual rock known as amphibolite gneiss, stand over one-thousand four-hundred metres high, but while it has stood tall for mega-annums, it is slowly shrinking due to erosion. Don’t worry though, you’d need to be around for another megaannum or more to witness it crumble to rubble so no need to take a screenshot of its grandeur just yet.

The Mount Jefferson State Natural Area that surrounds Mount Jefferson covers around five square kilometres of Ashe County and not surprisingly, is a popular escape-to spot for hikers wanting to enjoy the great outdoors. Humans don’t get its natural beauty all to themselves as it’s popular with wildlife too. If you’re feeling tempted to book a countrified get-away-from-it-all stay at the lodge, forget it. It’s a private residence. They just post this incredible view from their window to make viewers as green as the trees with envy.
