Monument Valley Webcam from Goulding’s Lodge

Thanks to the friendly folk of Goulding’s Lodge who stream this live feed, you can have a sneak peek of the dry and dusty terrains of Monument Valley in Utah. If it already looks familiar, that’s not surprising. This arid landscape dotted with massive sandstone buttes has been the backdrop for more Wild West movies than it’s possible to mention.

Monument Valley is part of the Navajo Nation reservation and is considered sacred land. Why anyone would want to lay claim to it, who knows, as it makes you thirsty just looking at it. It’s not somewhere you’d want to be lost and run out of water. There’s not one month of the year in which the valley receives more than three-quarters of an inch of rain. The total annual rainfall is well under five inches. If a raindrop does make the mistake of falling in Monument Valley, it probably sizzles when it hits the ground and turns to steam before it’s even had the chance to make a damp patch.
