Lokeren Marketplace and Peregrine Falcon Cams

It’s not surprising that peregrine falcons are a popular bird to focus a webcam on. Even in the world of raptors, they are quite unique. The added bonus with this falcon live feed is you can get a partial peek at what the bird inhabiting this lofty location can see from its perch. And it’s not a bad view at all. In fact, it’s probably one of the best out of all the bird’s eye view cams on this site.

The falcon’s perch overlooks the marketplace in the Belgian city of Lokeren. If the resident bird has flown the nest in search of its next pigeon feast and you find the box empty, flick onto the marketplace live feed to keep yourself amused until it returns. When you get tired of the elaborate 17th century architecture, you’ll find the vehicle and pedestrian traffic can prove to be quite entertaining.

If you’re more interested in the falcon than humans, cars and rooftops then make sure to revisit the cam from mid-March onwards. When the peregrine matrimony is going according to plan, there should be a batch of eggs in the box by then. The eggs, on average, take around a month to hatch so by the middle of April, or thereabouts, there should be some chicks. It takes around four to five weeks, from a chick cracking its shell and emerging into the world, for it to be ready to fly the nest. Don’t expect cute baby birds though. The one thing peregrines aren’t unique for is having good looking chicks. Until they’re fully grown and get their adult plumage, they’re just as ugly-beautiful as any other raptor chick.
