Kīlauea Volcano Live Cam
If viewing smouldering mountains is your thing, you won’t be disappointed with this live feed of the Kīlauea Volcano in Hawaii. Kīlauea puffs out clouds of smoke pretty much non-stop and has been doing so since its most recent eruption in December of 2024. If you prefer nighttime views of glow-in-the-dark lava flows, Kīlauea might not get you that excited. What you’ll see on the cam after the sun has dipped behind the horizon is a splatter of twinkling spots that look more like city lights in the distance than molten rock pouring out of the centre of the earth.
Kīlauea is only one of many volcanoes located in the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, but it’s one of the most active. For those who like a few facts thrown in along with their viewing, Kīlauea is a shield volcano and overlooks the southeastern part of the island from around one-thousand two-hundred metres above sea level. It’s part of a subaquatic mountain range known as the Hawaiian- Emperor Seamount Chain and is estimated to be less than three-hundred thousand years old.
As far as volcanoes are concerned, Kīlauea is not one of the most photogenic in existence. That doesn’t stop folks flocking to the park’s viewpoint to watch it puff and spew. The park authorities have very kindly installed picnic tables at a safe distance from Kīlauea so visitors can eat their lunch while looking at the volcano put on its habitual show. If you find yourself there one day, make sure to observe the rules and don’t get too close or your sandwiches will end up toasted.
