Dongshi Fisherman’s Wharf 360° Webcam
If you were expecting to glimpse a rustic wooden jetty jutting out into the Pacific Ocean where Taiwanese fishermen in conical hats are sitting casting their hooks out into the waters, you’re likely to be confused by what you’ll be viewing on this live feed. The Dongshi Fisherman’s Wharf just isn’t like that. Don’t be too disappointed though because, once you’ve clicked on the screen and explored the 360° feature in full, you’ll find this webcam will turn out to be quite entertaining.
While the Dongshi Fisherman’s Wharf, at the mouth of the Puzi River on the southwest coast of Taiwan, used to live up to the expectations of its name, nature put paid to that. Once it was no longer feasible as a fishing port because of sedimentary deposits, boats need water not mud to sail in, it became, as many defunct fishing villages do, a tourist resort. And a pretty attractive one too.
As you’ll be able to observe on the feed, Dongshi Fisherman’s Wharf has just about everything to keep locals as well as day visitors happy. Beautiful ocean views, a multi-pool lido for bathing, palm tree-lined pathways for strolling along, lawn areas to lounge on and an extensive sand pit for Taiwanese wrestlers to practice their skills in. But make use of the 360° feature and you’ll soon notice the sad expressions of the multi-coloured buildings. Their long faces could be due to an architectural quirk or they may just be missing the bygone days when there was no-one else around but fisherfolk.
