Deansgate Street Webcam in Manchester
There’s a lot of interesting things to see in Manchester. Think historic buildings like Manchester Cathedral and the one-of-its-kind mid-16th century, Old Wellington Inn. Add in the football stadiums for the city’s two famous teams and the filming locations for the, almost historic – it’s been running that long – TV series, Coronation Street and you won’t have even scratched the surface of what Manchester has to offer.
You won’t see any of the above on this live feed streamed by Manchester UK Live Cams. What you will be able to view is the pavement of Deansgate Street, pedestrians passing by, some bollards and the odd vehicle or two speeding past on the way to who knows where.
Although the spelling of its name has changed over time, Deansgate Street was named for the now extinct River Dene which once ran through the city. This well-trodden street has been a highway for footfall and commercial purposes since the Roman occupation of Ancient Britain. Which is probably why its one and a half kilometre length carves a very straight line through the city’s centre. The Romans were exceptionally good at getting from A to B in the straightest line possible.
Whether or not the Romans influenced the precise laying of Deansgate Street’s current paving slabs is something to ponder on while viewing. But don’t get too mesmerized by their symmetry because the most exciting moments on this live feed happen when the previously mentioned pedestrians are too busy looking at their phones while walking that they don’t see the lamp-post. And you really won’t want to miss that.
