Concepción Cityscape Webcam

Concepción is a city located on the banks of the Biobio River in the lush region of Chile known as the Valle de la Mocha. In the past folks would have had problems fitting its lengthy previous name, Concepción de la Madre Santísima de la Luz, on a postcard. Thankfully these days it’s just known as Concepción which is a lot shorter and definitely easier to pronounce.

The question is – would you send family and friends a postcard featuring the city skyline of Concepción? The answer is – probably not. Concepción may not be the most scenic city in Chile, but there’s a good reason for that. Concepción is an urbanisation that covers more than two-hundred square kilometres in one of the most seismic areas of the country.

Earthquakes happen in Concepción regularly, but does it bother the city’s inhabitants? Not so much. They still go about their daily business in this mega-industrialized city as if the ground trembling beneath their feet on an almost daily basis is nothing more than a quirky inconvenience. Unless, that is, the quake reaches magnitudes of 8.8 and brings the buildings tumbling down as it did in 2010. If the camera focus starts to wobble and become blurry while you’re watching, you won’t need to have psychic abilities to know what’s causing it. It’ll be the planet Earth having another grumble as it so often does.
