Vietnam has only recently opened its borders to visitors and provides a fascinating and in some places primitive insight into its culture. Ruled by China until 938AD, and then colonized by France from the mid-19th century it was ravaged by civil war from 1954 until 1975. Its history has left a fascinating legacy in its cities, architecture and its rich natural biodiversity.
