Views of Lake Chiemsee From Hotel ChiemseePanorama

At first glance you could be easily convinced that the view you’re looking at here is somewhere on the Asian continent. It’s not. Once you take in just how neat and tidy this lakeside scene is, down to those bushes at the forefront which have been topiaried square to within an inch of their lives, you’ll know this could only be somewhere where organisation is key. And that’s Germany. Thanks to the Hotel Chiemsee, who stream this live feed of the lake the hotel takes its name from, you can see just how meticulously well-kept this marina and the surrounding area are.

Lake Chiemsee is a natural lake and an unquestionably scenic body of water. It covers over thirty square miles of the Bavarian region of southern Germany. That said though, the lake is actually geographically closer to Salzburg in Austria than it is to the Bavarian capital, Munich. That’s a fact that makes no difference to anything whatsoever, but was interesting to include.

Like an inland sea, Lake Chiemsee is dotted with islands some of which are inhabited and others that are not. The one you can see across the water on this view is the island of Herreninsel. The vehicle-free island is popular with day-trippers who head there to explore it and take in the majesty of the 19th century palace built by the Bavarian king, Ludwig II. While he may not have lived long enough to enjoy the grandeur he created, it and its immaculate gardens have been appreciated by many since then.
