Portland Harbour Webcam

If you were hoping to get a sneaky peak at Portland in Oregon, sad to say you’re well off track. This Portland is an eleven and a half square kilometre lump of terra firma attached to the British mainland, along the coast of Dorset, by a tombolo. If that’s a geographical term you’ve never heard of, don’t worry, you’re not the only one. A quick Google search will tell you it’s simply a more sophisticated way of describing a pebble-strewn beach that connects two pieces of land.

This live feed streamed by OTC Watersports focuses on an area of Portland Harbour which at first glance may appear to be dull viewing, but it’s not. In fact, if you stick with the feed for a bit, you’ll discover it can turn out to be quite entertaining. While this may be one of the largest man-made harbours in the world, you won’t see a great deal of maritime traffic passing through. That’s because the cam isn’t pointed at the port piers where the cruise ships dock, but there will be action of a different kind.

The aquatic activities you’ll be able to take a gander at here include windsurfing, paddleboarding, and wing foiling. If you’ve never heard of wing foiling either, and you may not have, it’s the tricky watersport where the surfer acts as a mast and holds a wing-shaped sail while attempting to stay upright on a surfboard. Not only will you be able to get a glimpse of wing foiling first hand, you may also get to see someone trying their hand at Fliteboarding on an eFoil which is basically a motorised surfboard. It’s exciting, and occasionally hilarious, stuff so thanks to OTC for letting us join in the fun.
