Church of Saint Anton Webcam in Madrid

This might not turn out to be the most exciting webcam you’ll come across if you’re hoping to cast an eye over some of Madrid’s interesting Baroque architecture. But, on the other hand, if you’re hoping to join in with a prayer service from home, you’ll be more than satisfied with what you’re viewing. That is as long as you join the feed at the right time and they’re broadcasting. If not, then you’ll be blessed with the sight of several plush-covered chairs, which would probably only make an antique dealer’s heart beat faster, a few saintly statues and a bit of well-placed iconography to liven the scene up a little.

There is much more to the Church of San Anton than initially meets the eye on this live feed though. Forget about the church’s historic architecture because, even though the building was constructed in the early 18th century, the work they do there in this modern age is far more inspiring than its facade or decorative interior. Managed by the Mensajeros de la Paz, the Messengers of Peace, a religious order founded by Father Angel in the early 1960s, here they don’t just provide religious services online, but a lifeline of help and sanctuary for those who need it.

That help is extended to people from all walks of life including those who are victims of domestic violence, are disabled, homeless or for whatever reason, are excluded from society. That dedication to improving the lives of others you can’t see on screen because it goes on behind the scenes. Pop back on the 17th of January, or thereabouts, and you’ll be able to view folks bringing their mascots to the church to be blessed during the annual celebration of San Anton, the patron saint of animals. That’s a service that’s definitely not to be missed.
