Virgil R. Hazelett Reservoir Webcam at Cobbs Creek
Where there’s a calm stretch of water, there’s usually some wildfowl, resident or migratory, that will happen by to take advantage of it. That’s the way of nature, and only right too, but if you just wanted to view a peaceful scene for a moment or two, make sure to turn the sound off unless your idea of peace includes ducks and geese honking. They may be quite some way away, as you’ll notice when they paddle across the lake, but their honking can be heard loud and clear.
They may well be honking in celebration of getting their tranquil place to paddle back after years of disruption caused while the dam and reservoir were being built. Construction of the fifty metre-high dam at Cobbs Creek, which began back in 2015, has created a manmade lake covering almost one-thousand, two-hundred acres of terrain in Cumberland County, Virginia.
The reservoir is named for Virgil R. Hazelett, a county manager who oversaw most of the early days of the project before retiring. Once the reservoir is full to capacity with water, it’ll be stocked with fish and used, not only for supplying water to the surrounding area during dry spells, but for angling, recreational boating purposes and without a doubt – birdwatching.
