Blackpool View from Queen’s Promenade
If you were hoping to take a quiet digital stroll along the Queen’s Promenade in Blackpool, it might not be as quiet as you expect. The first thing you’ll want to do when you start viewing this webcam is turn the sound down or better still, off completely. Who knows what the background noise is, it could be the wind or the distorted distant crash of the waves, but it closely resembles someone attempting to play a steel drum with a metal coat hanger and doing a pretty bad job of it.
Blackpool is one of the UK’s most popular seaside resorts and has been for over a hundred and fifty years. It really does have everything anyone could ask for including great beaches, a pier, a tower, fairground rides a plenty and some decent pubs. There are also an abundance of indoor attractions like the Sea Life aquarium and Ripley’s Believe It Or Not as well as several more serious museums. That can turn out to be a bonus because the one thing Blackpool isn’t blessed with is constant sunshine.
Blackpool’s location on the UK’s west coast means it faces out onto the Irish Sea which, as you may have noticed from this live feed, can be, to say the least, blustery at times. The invigorating sea breeze and lack of UV rays doesn’t deter over twenty million people visiting this Lancashire town every year. Where do they all go when the clouds scud across the sky and block out whatever little bit of sunshine might have appeared? To the amusement arcades to spend their hard earned holiday cash playing one arm bandits and of course, the proverbial British seaside favourite, bingo.
