Sugovica Promenade Webcam in Baja
Which part of the view on this live feed streaming from Baja is the promenade is hard to tell. Promenades are typically associated with coastal resort towns where you can inhale a breath of invigorating sea air while taking a stroll. That is not the case in Baja as Hungary is a landlocked country and has no coast. So, at the risk of being overly pedantic and even though it’s still hard to define its exact whereabouts, we will call this a view of the Sugovica River walkway.
While this view of the tranquil, slow-flowing Sugovica River is quite pleasant, the origins of its name may well make you shudder and even make you itch involuntarily. In bygone days, the waters of the river were dirty and infested with bugs so it was blessed with a name derived from the Slavic word for scabies. Thankfully these days, the waters are cleaner and pesticides have practically done away with flying insects that love to feast on human blood – and amen for that because no-one wants to take a stroll along the prom accompanied by a cloud of buzzing mosquitoes.
Baja itself has an interesting history and in its time has played an important role in the country’s commerce. It’s also a city with a distinct culture that likes to hold quite unique events like the Baja Fish Soup Festival. For three entire days in July, there’s no escaping the aroma of fish soup on the boil in Baja. There’s nothing fishy about it, other than the ingredients, as it’s all made the traditional way in cauldrons over open fires. It’s always good to be famous for something and any overindulgence can always be remedied by a quick stroll along the Sugovica promenade or walkway – whichever you prefer to call it.
