North Yorkshire Moors Railway Webcams

View these North Yorkshire Moors Railway webcams for a while and, if you exercise a little patience, you’ll see history come to life as the steam locomotives come into view. If you’re short of time or don’t have much patience the best thing to do is check the NYMR website for the latest train schedules and rejoin the cam when you know one is going to be passing through.

The North Yorkshire Moors Railway is a non-profit heritage railway around thirty kilometres in length. The standard gauge track was originally built by the Victorian engineer, George Stephenson, and runs between the towns of Pickering and Whitby. After opening in the 1830s, the line’s commercial service days came to an end in the mid-1960s after which it was repurposed as a rail museum.

The NYMR have multiple operational steam locomotives, too many to mention individually here, that run special trips across the scenic moors throughout the year. And you don’t need to be a train enthusiast to enjoy a ride on any one of them. They are, excuse the pun, chuffing great. If the stations and trains look familiar then that’s because you’ve probably seen them on screen. NYMR stations and rolling stock have appeared in numerous films and TV series. Think just about any production that required a vintage train and you won’t be far wrong and that includes everything from Harry Potter to Downtown Abbey to Sherlock Holmes and more besides.
