Technik Museum Webcam, Sinsheim

At first glance the view on this webcam may well convince you’re looking at an airport after a tornado has whirled its way through tossing everything in its path to places they really shouldn’t be. Thankfully, it’s not. This is an exterior view of the Technik Museum in Sinsheim, near Frankfurt in Germany where, as you have probably already noticed, they like to exhibit their historic aircraft at, what can only be called, unusual angles.

One of the museum’s biggest aviation-related attractions is their Concorde. The supersonic, droopy-nosed plane first took to the airways in the late 1960s and in its heyday was capable of flying from London to New York in less than three hours. While the Concorde you can see on this live feed may no longer break the sound barrier as it crosses the Atlantic at over two-thousand kilometres per hour, it’s certainly still a sight to behold.

Concorde isn’t the museum’s only exhibit. Since opening its doors in 1981, the privately-owned museum has accumulated over three thousand items to display. It’s a diverse collection which includes everything from vintage cars to retired military tanks, farming equipment like tractors, motorcycles and the most recent acquisition, a submarine. Keep an eye out for the U17. After a lengthy four week journey from its former home in the Technik Museum in Speyer, it is finally in Sinsheim. But it can be difficult to spot at first as it’s the same dull grey as the tarmac it’s being displayed on. This could well be one of those rare occasions when painting the tarmac white or adding a few faux ocean waves beneath it maybe wouldn’t go amiss.
