Nordic Ski Race (Birkie Trail) Webcams in Cable

If there’s one thing that truly defines a Nordic ski trail then it has to be snow. While the essential white stuff has a tendency to appear quite early in the winter season in Scandinavian countries, that’s not always the case in Wisconsin. Even if the Birkie Trails don’t get a covering of snow until as late as December, it doesn’t stop the folks of Winsconsin getting their ski poles out.

The Birkie Trails are a hundred or so kilometre-long network of trails running through the countryside near the town of Cable in the north of the state. When the month of February comes around, they’re trails that host the biggest cross-country ski event in the entire US – as long as there’s snow on the ground. Throughout the year, snow or no snow, the trails are used for running, trekking and fat biking, and in general, appear to be pretty tranquil.

Come February that all changes and thousands of people from around the world will appear, skis on and grasping poles, ready to test their stamina in a series of races that vary from fifteen to fifty kilometres long. There’s a while to wait until the Birkie 2025 so in the meantime, snow or no snow, enjoy the scenery on this collection of Birkie trailhead webcams.
