Matsue-jō Castle Webcam
Japanese castles aren’t the atypical Disney-style fairy tale structures you’d come across dotted around Europe. They have an architectural style all of their own but it is one that is equally as grand and just as eye-catching.
Matsue-jō Castle, in the Japanese prefecture of Shimane, is one of the country’s most outstanding examples. First constructed in the early 1600s, apart from its keep, most of the original building was destroyed either by fire, earthquake or feuding warlords. Modern times have seen a rekindling of interest in reviving the legacy of Japan’s fortresses and while what you can see of Matsue-jō Castle these days is a reconstruction, down to the last millimetre, it’s an authentic one.
