The Garden State Parkway Bridge Webcam
From a distance, the Garden State Parkway Bridge looks uncannily similar in shape to the skeletal backbone of an unearthed brontosaurus. There’s nothing Jurassic about the bridge’s design though because, while it appears structurally simple, it isn’t.
The box girder bridge, also named the Driscoll Bridge after Governor Alfred E. Driscoll, spans the Raritan River in New Jersey and is over one thousand two-hundred metres long. First opened in 1954 with just four lanes, later renovations expanded the bridge to fifteen traffic lanes giving it the capacity to carry around four-hundred thousand vehicles daily. That’s a staggering statistic that makes Driscoll Bridge not just the widest in the US, but the busiest too.
