Pampulha Airport Webcam in Belo Horizonte
Pampulha Airport, also known as the Carlos Drummond de Andrade Airport, is just a few years shy of celebrating its first centenary of operations. This airport, in the Pampulha district of Belo Horizonte, Brazil, opened in 1933 and has been inundated with commercial aircraft ever since. Over one-hundred and fifty thousand planes land or take off on its singular runway every year.
While the famous, and very prolific, Brazilian poet Carlos Drummond de Andrade may not have found the constant flow of planes flying in and out inspiring, he was more into politics and socialism, the powers to be were sufficiently impressed by his works to rename the airport in his honour. What he would have thought, if he were still alive, at having an airport named after him is anyone’s guess, but it may well have encouraged him to put pen to paper and wax lyrical about aviation-related pollution.
