York Rail Operating Centre Webcam
If you think you’re watching the York Rail Operating Centre, or ROC for short, by keeping an eye on the trains going up and down the various tracks on view, you’d be focusing on completely the wrong thing.
What you can see on this webcam attached to the building the ROC is housed in is the platforms of York train station. All the signalling controlled by the ROC goes on behind brick walls and behind the cam in a state-of-the-art control centre that cost an eye-watering £26 million. The York ROC is one of twelve similar centres in the UK and isn’t expected to be fully operational until 2056. So while you can’t see how the ROC functions or even what it looks like inside, you’ll just have to make do with trains and the view of York Cathedral which is very nice.
