Windmills at Zaanse Schans
There are two things Zaanse Schans in the Netherlands isn’t short of – windmills and museums. It’s a place that likes to keep things as they were in the 18th and 19th century too so modern isn’t a word that enters into the vocabulary of the local residents. Traditional skills like clog and cheese making and milling flour for bread are daily occupations carried out in the working museums.
The Zaanse Schans wooden windmills line the banks of the Zaan River and are in remarkable condition considering their location and how damp Holland can be. Take a look at them with this webcam and you’ll discover, there’s something quite relaxing watching the sails of a windmill rotate especially when the view is accompanied by a little classical music. You may find yourself getting totally carried away while watching this live feed of the windmills in Zaanse Schans and start tapping your fingers on your desk or even begin to conduct an imaginary orchestra – don’t be shy – go for it!
